August 2024

NEW BEGINNINGS IN THE BROTHEL

The girls at the Meena Project have moved in to the safe house! Your generosity opened the doors to a safe home for school aged girls growing up in Daulatdia, Bangladesh, one of the largest brothels in the world.

We are still looking to secure ongoing sponsorships for 21 of the girls at $50/month. This is your opportunity to have a direct hand in preventing human trafficking and opening a door to a different future for one of these girls. Without an option like the Meena Project, girls growing up in Daulatdia are likely to be trapped in sexual slavery like their mothers and grandmothers.

Go to www.childrenofpromise.global/meena to sponsor one of these girls today.

MEDICAL EMERGENCY IN BOTSWANA

On July 12, 2024, a 14 year old sponsored boy in Botswana was admitted to the hospital because he was suffering from acute shortness of breath and abdominal pain. In the following days, he was medically evacuated to Gaborone, the capital city, to get a diagnosis and receive treatment. Since then, he had a liter of fluid drained from around his heart and additional fluid drained from his lungs.

A mass was detected between his heart and sternum. Tests show signs of cancer.

Cancer.

He has started chemotherapy and will stay in Gaborone to receive treatment. Later in August, he’ll be at home for a week before returning to the capital for additional treatment.

Gaborone is over 500 miles from the city of Maun where he and his family live. He and his mom are a 12-hour, overnight bus ride away from family, friends, and their community. They are facing the unimaginable, with none of their typical support system by their sides.

Would you join us by praying and giving to help them know they are not alone?

  • Pray for peace that passes all understanding; for he and his mom, and for family and friends at home who can’t be physically present with them.
  • Pray that chemotherapy will be effective in eradicating the cancer. Pray that the treatment plan will enable this boy to live a long, healthy, and cancer-free life.
  • Give to the Emergency Fund. After just six days, the bills exceeded $7,000. His mom makes less than $100/month.

Make a difference today by donating online at childrenofpromise.global/EmergencyFund

At CofP we do our best to respond to emergency needs as we have the capacity to do so. It’s your generosity that enables us to respond immediately when needs arise. 100% of gifts to our Emergency Fund are used to respond to emergency needs that affect the CofP kids around the world.

INVITATIONS TO WHOLENESS

Invitations are a primary component in our decision to start new programs around the world. Because Children of Promise is locally shaped, it is essential that local leaders and volunteers are the driving force behind making wholeness possible for the children in their communities. Over the last several years, more and more of the global Church of God movement has become aware of what is possible through child sponsorship. We have received many invitations from all over the world to establish new programs.

There are many factors involved in the timing and process to expand into new locations, but our primary objective remains the same, to make wholeness possible for children living in poverty. There are so many needs in the world stemming from political instability, slavery and exploitation of vulnerable people, ethic and racial inequality and injustice, and broken economic systems that make it nearly impossible for the poor to find an escape route. We want to say yes to as many invitations as possible to start programs in places with such significant need. We need you! Your generosity makes wholeness possible.

For a few days in July, Mike, provided instruction and counsel to new program volunteers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Burundi and encouraged long term volunteers in Rwanda.

In the last year we have had trainings in Liberia, El Salvador, and new sites in Bangladesh. Since 2020, we have launched new programs in Guatemala, Zimbabwe, Pakistan, and Brazil. Our capacity to say yes to these invitations is limited only by the number of sponsors and partners we can find. Your generosity matters! YOU are making wholeness possible in places that need assistance. Thank you!

We want you to experience the impact of your generosity and meet the incredible local volunteers who are the hands and feet of making wholeness possible. The details of our 2025 trips are coming together. Go to childrenofpromise.global/trips and let us know where you’d like to go!

Until all are made whole
