THE POWER OF THE RIPPLE EFFECT
What if one act of generosity could ripple across a family, a community, even an entire country?
Because of you, that’s exactly what’s happening in Colombia. Over the years, this has been one of our toughest programs because of ongoing challenges within the country. Many children in our southern Colombia program have lost family, witnessed violence, and experienced loss at a young age.
This month, we invite you to Colombia, where your support is creating a ripple effect of healing, stability, and hope in the lives of children and families facing incredibly difficult circumstances.
HOPE FOR KIDS LIKE JUAN MANUEL
Some of you may remember Juan Manuel from a previous update in Puerto Asís, Colombia. His story is one that powerfully reflects the litany of issues your generosity is tackling.
After losing his father during the COVID pandemic, Juan Manuel’s family was thrown into crisis. His older brother stepped in to provide, while Juan Manuel began experiencing severe panic attacks that kept him mostly confined to his home. Even something as small as a door being left open could trigger overwhelming fear. On our previous visit, Director Mike Webb had to visit him in his living room because his anxiety was too much to leave his home.
Under guidance of our local director, Jeanet, we were able to help Juan Manuel see the doctor and receive life-changing anxiety medication. Meanwhile, the Gap Fund provided a scholarship for his brother to finish school and create stability for the family. When his family needed stability, you provided real turning points.
The second night of our visit, all the children prepared for a large performance to say thank you for the program. To our shock, who joined the children on stage for a presentation? Juan Manuel! He joined the kids in a song and even was joined by his family as they presented beautifully hand-painted banners to Mike for all that Children of Promise has done for their family.
For Juan Manuel, the program met him where he was, locked inside his home. Now, hope has left the building! This is what happens when you meet a child where they are, empowering them to run towards their God dream. Lives change and hope ripples out into a community.
